2011 - Gilbert & Sullivan's The Sorcerer coming in 2011

Please come audition for The Sorcerer in early September! We need all singing parts from chorus to principal.

Principals

At the first principal auditions (Fri., Sept. 10th), you will be required to sing from "The Sorcerer" but only one song in a particular voice range, even if you are trying for more than one role. For example, if you want to audition for all four female roles, you would need to prepare either an Aline or Constance aria AS WELL AS either the Mrs Partlet or Lady Sangazure selection. Likewise for the men, Alexis is a tenor, the Notary is a bass and the other three are baritones. (See the attachment "Principal Auditions" - page 1 - for the required pieces.)

Reading will be at the committee's discretion and recommended passages are being given in advance. (See the attachment "Principal Auditions" - page 2)

For principal call-backs (Tues. Sept. 14th.), the harmony pieces will normally only indicate one verse to be sung.

Those wishing to audition should call David Johansen (514-804-4900) any time from now to set up an appointment and he will schedule three auditions in each half hour, starting at 7 pm. on Friday, September 10th. Everyone is encouraged to perform the audition without a score.

Chorus

You will be strongly encouraged to select an audition piece from the G&S repertoire (or another identifiable song) and to bring music with which to be accompanied. You also have to be prepared to sing the music on page 57 of the score in your voice part - See the attached "Chorus Audition Piece". Please call David Johansen (514-804-4900) for an appointment. The chorus auditions will start at 7 pm. on Tuesday, September 14th.

Practicing at home

For anyone wishing to practice their singing part, here is an excellent tool. Just visit this site http://en.kioskea.net/download/download-1311-vanbasco-s-karaoke-player and download the free karaoke player. Then download the karaoke files (.kar). You can isolate your voice to practice, and then add the other voices to perfect! Many at Lakeshore Light Opera have used this for years. Please try it!
