| Hail Unity! |
| Like the three Tenors early in their careers, three
Gilbert and Sullivan societies have existed in friendly competition in
Montreal for several years. This year, it all changes. Just as the tenors
joined forces to bring opera to the world, the three societies are coming
together in an historic event. The Montreal West Operatic Society, Lakeshore Light Opera and McGill's Savoy Society are joining forces and presenting, for the first time, a joint concert promoting their productions in 2008. Conceived with the purpose of bringing the Gilbert & Sullivan operettas to a wider audience and to promote their works as family entertainment, the concert is being held on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 8:00pm at St. George's Church in downtown Montreal (de la Gauchetiere between Peel and Stanley, across from Windsor station, metro Bonaventure). The concert will feature excerpts in choral format from the three shows being presented in 2008: The Mikado (Savoy Society), Ruddigore (Lakeshore Light Opera), and H.M.S. Pinafore (Montreal West Operatic Society). Funds raised at the concert will be divided equally among each society for contribution to their usual charity. Tickets are available by calling the Lakeshore Light Opera box office at 514-804-4900 or at the door. Tickets are $15.00 full price, $8.00 for students and seniors. In addition to raising funds, the concert is promoting a first-ever joint season of the three community groups. Season tickets to all three shows may be purchased at a coffee and dessert function immediately following the concert or, again, by contacting the Lakeshore Light Opera box office (514-804-4900) or by going to the Lakeshore Light Opera website (http://llo.org). |
